Preserving Mariaville Lake: A Community Effort
Our Journey with Mariaville Lake
Since its inception, the Mariaville Civic Association (MCA) has been dedicated to enhancing the beauty and health of Mariaville Lake. Through the tireless efforts of our volunteer board and the generous support of our community, we have undertaken numerous projects to improve the lake and surrounding area. From early conservation initiatives to modern management strategies, our history is a testament to the power of community collaboration. Discover the milestones we’ve achieved and how you can be a part of our ongoing mission.
The Role of CSLAP in Lake Management
The Citizens Statewide Lake Assessment Program (CSLAP) plays a crucial role in the ongoing stewardship of Mariaville Lake. This volunteer-driven initiative, managed by the DEC and NYSFOLA, provides essential data that informs our lake management strategies. By participating in CSLAP, we gain valuable insights into the lake’s ecological health, enabling us to make informed decisions that benefit both the environment and our community.
In 2015, CSLAP produced a comprehensive report and scorecard for Mariaville Lake, highlighting key findings and offering guidance for future management. These documents are invaluable resources for understanding the lake’s current conditions and planning for its sustainable future. We encourage community members to engage with CSLAP’s online data entry program to contribute to this vital work.
CSLAP Report and Lake Scoreboard
The Citizens Statewide Lake Assessment Program (CSLAP) is a volunteer lake monitoring and education program that is managed by the DEC and New York State Federation of Lake Associations (NYSFOLA). CSLAP helps monitor and collect important lake data. The information is used to understand lake conditions and develop lake management plans.
In 2015, CSLAP created a lake report, scorecard, and Q&A for Mariaville Lake. Those documents can be found below. The MCA strongly encourages participation in the CSLAP online data entry program. For more information about the program, contact Lou Feeney at help@cslapdata.org.

Weed Harvester Initiative
The Mariaville Civic Association (MCA) is spearheading an essential project to acquire a weed harvester. This initiative is crucial for maintaining the ecological balance of Mariaville Lake by effectively managing invasive aquatic vegetation.
Invasive species like Eurasian milfoil and curly leaf pondweed pose significant threats to the lake’s health and recreational use. The weed harvester will allow us to control these species more sustainably, ensuring a thriving environment for both wildlife and community activities.
With your support, we aim to enhance the lake’s natural beauty and usability. The weed harvester will provide a long-term solution to the challenges posed by invasive plants, reducing the need for chemical treatments and preserving the lake’s ecosystem.
Join us in this vital effort to protect Mariaville Lake. Your contributions will directly impact the success of this project, fostering a healthier and more enjoyable lake for everyone.
